Multipoint Latches

Latches are needed to temporarily secure two or more objects or surfaces together while still allowing for easy separation and quick access when needed. Sierra Pacific Engineering & Products (SPEP) offers comprehensive latching hardware to hardware distributors and OEMs who serve various industries.

SPEP takes great pride in designing and manufacturing high-quality access hardware built to maintain its integrity and maximize its lifespan. Our engineers offer custom-designed hardware solutions to meet our customers' exact needs. We provide a range of latches but for even more security and durability, we recommend our multi point latches.

Multi point latches differ from traditional deadbolts and provide users with several added benefits, such as enhanced security for increased peace of mind. Discover more about multipoint locking systems and explore our inventory at SPEP.

More About This Section

What Are Multi Point Latches?

Multi point latches, also called three-point latches, are locking mechanisms that use multiple contact points to secure an entry door, access control panel, or other enclosure. The multipoint lock features a central handle with two long bars that extend vertically from the handle, sliding up and down to engage keepers fixed to the door frame or enclosure. The bars are connected to a rotating mechanism linked to the handle, which allows the handle to extend and retract the bars upon being turned, locking all points on the door in a smooth motion.

Because multipoint locks are a requirement of NEMA standards, this type of latching system is commonly seen on semi-trailer doors and in electronic enclosures. Multipoint latches are specifically designed to provide exceptional strength and protect doors from warping. They are more secure than single-point latches because they distribute force evenly across the door.

Multipoint Latches From SPEP

At SPEP, we understand the need for reliable hardware to keep enclosures secure and contents safe. We offer stainless steel, zinc-plated three-point latch systems in medium-duty or heavy-duty construction, providing a high-security solution for varying applications. Our offerings are available in several other materials and finishes to accommodate different industry needs.

While our inventory consists of a diverse range of multipoint latch and lock systems, we acknowledge that every application is unique. If you can’t find what you need in our catalog, our engineers can design and manufacture a custom multipoint latch system that meets your criteria.

In addition to complete multi point latching systems, our inventory includes a variety of multipoint latch accessories and door hardware, such as:

  • Rods

  • Rod Guides

  • Fixed & Roller Cams

  • Pivot Hinges

  • Keepers

  • Lock Handles

  • Pipe Holders

  • Knobs

  • Door locks

  • Door hinges

  • Door pulls and door handles

How does a multipoint latch work?

A multipoint latch works by securing a door at various points instead of just in the middle. This provides a tighter seal and provides greater security. When the lock is turned, two long steel rods attached to the inside of the door move vertically. The upper rod moves up and the lower rod moves down. The ends of the rods move through holes in the flanges at the top and bottom of the door, immobilizing the top and bottom of the door. To unlock the door, simply turn the key back.

How do I install my multipoint latch?

SPEP provides mounting hardware and detailed installation instructions after checkout to make the process seamless. If customers have difficulties installing their new multi point latching system, our support team will be standing by to assist. We will answer any questions regarding your order and provide relevant information, including installation tips.

Are multi point latches worth the increased price tag?

Multipoint locks are generally more expensive than single-point latches. However, the design of multipoint latches offers increased security. Many people believe added security that multipoint latches provide suffices the high price.

Are multi point latches from SPEP reliable?

SPEP is dedicated to producing latching solutions that our customers can trust. Our ISO 9001 certification demonstrates our unwavering commitment and willingness to adhere to globally accepted standards in quality assurance. Following these guidelines, we create multi point latching systems that meet and exceed the expectations of customers.

Furthermore, to ensure our products continue meeting safety and performance standards, before becoming available to customers, they are thoroughly tested to make certain they comply with standards set forth by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). This organization is at the forefront of testing consumer products and a UL certification represents the highest measure of safety and performance.

Are there other types of latches available at SPEP?

SPEP aims to accommodate the ranging needs of its customers by offering a vast selection of latches available in various types and purposes. In addition to multipoint latches, our other offerings include:

  • Bolt latches

  • Compression latches

  • Pawl latches

  • Twist latches

  • Slam latches

  • Butterfly latches

  • Draw latches

  • Recessed latches

  • Magnetic latches

  • Quarter-turn latches

  • Trigger latches

  • Swing handle latches

Can my multipoint latch order be returned?

SPEP accommodates returns if it’s concluded an error was made by our team. We cover complete return costs after the customer obtains a return merchandise authorization (RMA). If the customer is deemed at fault for the error, SPEP will only consider returns for items that are still listed in the catalog and are in perfect condition. If we approve the return request, we will provide a credit, but the client must prepay the freight and will incur a 20% restocking fee.
