What are ISO 9000 and ISO 9001?
The ISO 9000 family of quality management systems (QMS) is a set of standards that helps ensure organizations meet important regulatory requirements for their products and services. ISO 9000 deals with the fundamentals of QMS and the underlying principles for the family of standards. ISO 9001 deals with the requirements that organizations aiming to meet the standard must fulfill.
Third-party certification provides independent assessment and validation that organizations meet the requirements of ISO 9001. Over one million organizations in over 90 countries worldwide are independently certified, making ISO 9001 one of the most widely used management tools in the world today.

Sierra Pacific Engineering and Products (SPEP) proudly carries a variety of components that have been rigorously tested and certified to comply with internationally recognized safety standards from Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL Listed parts and UL Recognized hardware ensure the highest degree of safety and performance to give our customers’ final products an important competitive edge.
Customers can choose to purchase applicable SPEP UL Listed hardware for direct use & installation into complete devices or panels without any testing, or purchase SPEP UL Recognized parts if intending to use, resell, or qualify as a sub-component for a UL Listed device or panel. UL Rated parts provide peace of mind that they will function as intended and save you from added costs of getting them UL Certified on your own.
SPEP Hardware has been tested and proven to meet all rigorous material and environmental corrosion requirements for the highest allowable industry-leading UL certification in North America but are still considered component parts intended for larger complete assemblies.
- Parts with moving pieces (like latches) can be UL Recognized (category FTTA2 for USA and FTTA8 for Canada) and then are installed and tested on the final customer product to become UL Listed.
- Parts without moving pieces (like hole seals) can be both UL Recognized (category NITW2 for USA and NITW8 for Canada) and also UL Listed (category FTTA for USA and FTTA7 for Canada) on their own.
- Sub-component sealing elements such as gasket and O-ring material can be UL Recognized (category JMST2), which bypasses the requirement for physical samples during the UL Listing process.
